Yogi Berra

Monday, May 19th, 2008

New York Yankees great, Yogi Berra, is known throughout the world for quick comments and witty remarks — often dubbed Yogiisms.  I stumbled upon some quotes of Yogi’s that just made me laugh.

“You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going because you might not get there.”

On a trip to Cooperstown with Phil Rizzuto, Phil commented to Yogi, “I think we’re lost.” To which Yogi replied,

“Yeah, but we’re making great time.”

Giambi and his Thong

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

New York Yankees first baseman/designated hitter, Jason Giambi, wears a gold thong whenever he’s slumping.  And for Jason, he’s been slumping for a very long time now.

Jason lends it out from time to time to other players who are slumping.  Both Jeter and Damon confirmed that they’ve have donned the gold thong a few times.

“I had it over my shorts and stuff, I was 0-for-32 and I hit a homer on the first pitch. That’s the only time I’ve ever worn it,” Jeter stated.

Damon stated he might need to wear it soon, as he’s currently batting a mediocre .255.  Damon was able to shed some light on the thought process of wearing the thong to get over a slump.

“You’re not worrying about your hands or your balance at the plate; you’re worried about the uncomfortable feeling you’re receiving,” Damon said.

Update: It turns out this was a rehashed interview and article from several years ago.  Some reporter dug it up, wrote a new article off of it, and then the rest of the media jumped on it.  Looks like I fell for it, as well.  Must have been a slow news day for that reporter.

Yankee Stadium

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

The new Yankee Stadium is looking great.  I must admit, at first I didn’t think it was a wise move constructing a new stadium.  But after just seeing updated pics, I’m pretty damn excited.  It seems that they’re converting much of the aura over into the new place.  While the new stadium won’t have the ‘history mystique’ of the current stadium, it will certainly have much of the ‘wow’ factor.

Sometimes change can be good, too.  So much of the Yankees pressure is because of the past.  While the Yankees’ history is something to be proud of, I’d imagine, as a ballplayer, it can be very hard to live up to.

A-Rod’s Blast

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Alex Rodriguez launched one last week against Clay Buccholz for a crazy four hundred and fifty seven feet.

Many being, well, Manny

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

There was a good article that captured a Manny Ramirez that the media, and public, don’t typically see.  “Manny being Manny” is usually shoved down our throats — a self-absorbed asshole that only cares about himself.  A quick interview and a day later, you see a different side of Manny.

After all this is over, all I want is for my kids to go to college and to be their best friend.  That’s all I want. I don’t care about home runs or whatever.

Stumbled across New York Yankee pitcher’s, Philip Hughes, blog tonight. Pretty cool guy; he sure adds a ton of excitement to the team.

Giants 17, Patriots 14

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Eli did it — after everyone saying he would never win in New York.  Coughlin did it — after everyone demanding that the owners fire him.  Plaxico called it, and he was right — a low scoring Giants win over the Patriots.

Incredible.

While the victory was great, seeing Belichick run off the field and not even acknowledging the Giants players, or Coughlin, was ever better.  Plus, while being interviewed, Belichick just kept saying how disappointed he was.  Right, your undefeated season just went to shit; we’d expect you to be disappointed.  But to not congratulate the Giants on their victory?  Talk about an asshole.  But hopefully it was just un-aired, and I missed it.

All in all, what a great game; very entertaining.  David Tyree had some amazing grabs, and the NYG defense pounded on Brady all night.  Incredible.

recent-link Kidd Wants Out, Again

Monday, January 28th, 2008

It’s something definitely not new to the basketball realm — Jason Kidd wants to be dealt from his current team because they are no longer competitive. I appreciate his competitiveness, but it’s getting old. Whatever happened to sticking through the good and the bad times? Kidd realizes times are bad, and he automatically wants out. He’s no different than a Kobe Bryan it’s-all-about-me personality.

recent-link Brian Leetch

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

On Thursday night, the New York Rangers will retire Brian Leetch’s jersey at Madison Square Garden.

Leetch spent the first 16-plus seasons of his 18-year NHL career with the Rangers, and ranks second in franchise history with 1,129 games played, first with 741 assists, second with 981 points, and first among defensemen in goals (240) and points (981).

recent-link Giants to the Super Bowl

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

The underdog Giants beat the Packers in the third coldest game in NFL history to win a trip to the Super Bowl.

Imagine the look on Brady’s face when another Manning ruins his chance for another Super Bowl ring.
